Fake Remote Jobs & Online Work Scams

Fake remote job scams often appear as attractive “work from home” roles, such as data entry, virtual assistant work, social media tasks or crypto-related jobs. They promise high pay for simple tasks, but are designed to steal your money, personal data, or both.

How this scam typically works
  • You see a job advert or receive a direct message via WhatsApp, Telegram, email or social media.
  • The “employer” promises easy remote work with flexible hours and unusually high pay.
  • You may be asked to complete small tasks to “build trust” and sometimes receive small payments at first.
  • Later, you are asked to pay a deposit, buy “packages”, or invest your own money to unlock higher earnings.
  • Once you pay more, the platform or contact disappears, or blocks your account and keeps the funds.
Common red flags
  • Job offers sent out of nowhere with no proper interview or screening.
  • Promises of very high income for simple clicks, likes, reviews, or basic data entry.
  • Requests to pay a deposit, buy “levels”, or prepay for tasks to access higher commissions.
  • Pressure to act quickly and not tell friends or family about the “opportunity”.
  • Payments requested in cryptocurrency, gift cards, or direct transfers to personal accounts.

What you should do right now
  1. Stop completing tasks and do not send any more money or personal information.
  2. Take screenshots of chats, job adverts, profiles, payment records and website links.
  3. Contact your bank or payment provider as soon as possible and explain that you may be a victim of fraud.
  4. Report the fake job and accounts to the platform you used (social media, messaging app, job site, etc.).
  5. Report the scam to your local police or national fraud / cybercrime authority.
  6. Contact SafeHaven Solution for guidance on next steps and how to protect yourself in future.

Why fake remote job scams are particularly harmful

These scams can drain savings very quickly because victims are often encouraged to “top up” or “upgrade” repeatedly to recover previous losses. At the same time, scammers may collect personal information and identity documents, putting you at risk of identity theft and further fraud.

Quick tips
  • Be cautious of jobs that guarantee high income with little effort.
  • Search the company name plus words like “scam” or “review” before accepting.
  • Never pay deposits or buy “packages” to keep a job.
  • Use trusted job platforms and verify recruiters on LinkedIn or official websites.

If you joined a remote job platform that is demanding more money, act quickly — early action can limit further loss.
